About the Avio Castle:
Avio Castle, also called Castello di Avio, is a historic fortress in Trentino, northern Italy. Built between 1000-1100 AD, it changed hands from the Castelbarco family to the Republic of Venice and later to Maximilian I of Austria. The castle has strong walls and 5 towers, including one where executions used to happen. Inside, visitors will see beautiful medieval frescoes, like the "Chamber of Love" from around 1330, showing Cupid in romantic scenes. The castle is now cared for by the Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano (FAI) which is the National Trust for Italy.
