The temple is devoted to Maa Kali, Maa Saraswati, Maa Laxmi carved in caves in the form of pindies. You can reach the temple by trekking 14km, in pony rides or in helicopter. As you move up you are treated to amazing sights of landscape, the towering peaks and valley.

Katra is located at a distance of 50 Kms from Jammu, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu is connected with the rest of the country by road, rail and air. Jammu is connected by air with Delhi and Srinagar.
Jammu is also connected by rail to all the major cities of the country. Indian Railways operates large number of trains with air-conditioned and ordinary coaches to and from Jammu every day. From Jammu to Katra the distance is 50 Kms. Taxis are available at Jammu Airport and Jammu Railway Station for carrying the pilgrims to Katra. The Jammu and Kashmir State Roadways Transport Corporation operates a large number of buses at regular intervals from Jammu Railway Station to Katra. Private Deluxe buses also operate between Jammu Railway Station and Katra. Besides these, there is also a regular bus service between Jammu and Katra from the General Bus Stand at Jammu. Buses leave for Katra after every 15 minutes from the Jammu Bus Stand. The bus service commences at 5.30 AM and concludes at 8.30 PM everyday.
Katra is 45 km from Jammu. One can easily hire a cab or travel by own.
The 5 min flight from Katra will land you at Sanjichat (6080 ft) and from there you have to walk 2.5 km to Bhawan, which takes around 30 mins. So all those who are looking forward to visit Vaishno Devi and do not have much time, then the helicopter option is a great one to save time in travelling.

Vaishno Devi is open for pilgrims throughout the year, but the best time to undertake the journey is between the months of March and October. A lot of pilgrims visit Vaishno Devi between these months as the weather is cool and pleasant, but maximum visitors plan their trip during the Navratras.
