Also known as the Turtle Beach, Velas is home to Olive Ridley turtles - an endangered species of turtles. Visit Velas Beach to witness magic as turtles lay eggs during the breeding season between February and May.
Several female turtles come to the beach to lay eggs that the villagers volunteer to protect. They ensure the safety of the eggs and create a secure passage for the turtles to go back to the sea. The Turtle Festival is celebrated to witness this unique event where thousands of newly hatched Olive Ridley turtles take their first steps towards the sea.
