Nubra Valley Trek
Nubra Valley is known as the valley of flowers. It is situated in the north of Leh.Bactarian Camels “ hairy double-hump camel around sand dunes are the major attraction of this area. The route also takes you through Deskit & Samstanling monasteries and Khardung la Pass (18,380 feet.) located above sea level.
It can be visited with a seven day permit, which gives you adequate time to discover the barren topography and trek out to one or two Gompas. Explore the quaint and ancient Thiksey monastery which is suspended on top of the hill overhanging the Indus.
Hemis gompa is one of the largest Treks in Ladakh. Nubra valley trek passes through Khardung La the highest motorable road in the world 18380 feet. After trekking through the pass, you will see Khardung village, Khalser and Deskit. The camel trip can be done from Deskit to Hunder village for 2 hours.
Hundar village has small monastery, located on ancient Silk Route. Another route reaches to the river called Nubra. Explore the pretty villages like Tirit, Lukung, Tegar and Sumur. Pay a visit to the famous kanor monastery. Continue trekking till you reach Samstaling, placed on ridge above Sumur.

Major Attractions
Thiksey Monastery: Located on a charming hilltop, it is an amazing example of Ladakhi architecture. The marvelous statue of Buddha is the main attraction here. The festival called Thiksey is celebrated with joy and splendor. The wonderful wall paintings are carved with the ides of Buddhas. A glorious monastery has 12 storied building complexes.
Diskit village: Dotted with apricot, Diskit is the largest village, placed near Khaltsar. The picturesque village leads through a dazzling stretch of sand dunes.
Hemis gompa: A well known town Hemis is famous for its Hemis monastery. It is located around 40 km southeast of Leh. The monastery has a very wealthy collection of ancient relics. The monastic Hemis festival is also celebrated in early June

How to get there
By Air: Indian Airlines and Jet Airways have regular flights to and fro Leh. Leh airport is linked with important cities like Delhi, Srinagar and Chandigarh.
By Road: Regular state transport bus services run between Srinagar and Leh and Manali and Leh. If you do not prefer traveling by bus, the alternative available is jeeps.
By Rail: Jammu is the closest railway station and is 734 km from Leh. From here Buses take two days to reach Leh.

Basgo Castle: Around 42 km from west of Leh. Basgo castle is renowned for its castle ruin and the adjacent majestic temples. This castle placed on a mount of clay.
Likir gompa: Built in 15th century, Likir gompa is located on an isolated edge very near to north of Saspol. The areas around provide pleasant views of the Gompa from various vantage points. Likir Gompa puts up around 120 monks.
