The Nanda Devi is a second highest peak which forms a significant part of the Garhwal Himalayas. This region is located in the Uttarakhand state of India, and is surrounded by the Goriganga Valley on its east and Rishi Ganga Valley in its west. The altitude of this peak is nearly 7,817 m above the level of the sea. This is a twin peak, which is in itself is rare.
The abundant wildlife of this region makes for a number of national parks in the region . The Nanda Devi National Park located here has an amazing topography and is a supporter of several ecosystems, habitats and species. The region is endowed with the presence of animals such as Himalayan black bear, snow leopards, Himalayan tahr and Himalayan musk bear, to name a few. Bird watchers get a delightful sight in this region, as nearly hundreds of avian species can be traced here. Even the rarely seen birds such as Indian tree pipit, orange flanked bush robin and blue fronted redstart can also be spotted here.
Apart from giving pleasure to the wildlife enthusiasts, the national park also offers the thrill of trekking to the adventure lovers. The Lata Village to Dharasi trek is famous for its challenging yet enticing trails. The steep slopes and the uneven terrain are responsible for making the treks one of the most sought after ones.
There is a well established system of roadways and trails for reaching Nanda Devi. The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is 21 km away and the nearest railway station is at Rishikesh.
