Junagarh

Located at the foothills of the Girnar range in Gujarat, Junagadh is one of the largest and busiest tourist attractions in Gujarat. The name Junagadh is an Indianized version of Yonagadh, the name of Indo Greek origin. The city is full of tourist centers like forts, mausoleums, natural getaways, and amusement parks. 

The entire city has a historical edge to it. A perfect confluence of natural reserves and modern development can be witnessed throughout Junagadh. The forests located on the far end of the city complement the towering buildings, beaches, and forts perfectly. 

While in Junagadh, do not miss visiting the Gir National Park. This place is home to the largest number of Asiatic lions anywhere in the world and also contains several exotic species of plants and animals throughout. With over 300 species of birds and 2375 species of trees and shrubs, this place is also perfect for birdwatchers and nature lovers. 

You can also visit the Girnar Hills for a truly exotic vacation amidst the mountains. Lush green grasses cover the tall hills, lending them a picturesque vibe. These hills are as ancient as the first civilization of Indus Valley and also find their descriptions in ancient Indian scriptures.

For a dose of history, visit the Uperkot fort and the Mohabbat maqbara. Both of these places reflect local and Mughal past of the region and feature unique architecture. You can also visit places like Sarkhseshwar beach, edicts of Ashoka, and Buddhist caves for a holistic vacation. 

One of the best activities to try in Junagadh is Jungle exploration through safaris. You may also try out activities like sunbathing and beach sports.
