What are the places to visit in Jalandhar?

Some of the best places to visit in Jalandhar are - 

1. Rangla Punjab Haveli
This is a traditional themed village that features Punjabi culture in a modern and conventional setting. There are many things and attractions here that would keep you enthralled for hours. You can try your hand at churning butter with the traditional churn, or at pottery; enjoy a conventional Punjabi performance or a kathputli performance.

Try out the various mouthwatering culinary delights which are served with classical folk music playing in the background. The setting features a traditional Punjabi Village and built with Nanakshahi bricks. The decor showcases various antique artefacts that complements the authentic Punjabi menu.

2. Devi Talab Mandir
The Devi Talab Mandir is located in the heart of the city of Jalandhar, and it is believed to be about 200 years old. This temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India, and it is dedicated to Maa Durga. In recent years, the ancient temple has been replaced by a new one.

The temple also has a 200-year-old tank that holds deep religious significance to the believers who come here to offer their prayers. The Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan is held here every year in December.

3. Pushpa Gujral Science City
The Science City in Jalandhar is one of the popular places to visit in Punjab. The complex is spread over 72 acres of land, and it is located on the Kapurthala - Jalandhar road. There are several science exhibits related to the physical world, space science, information technology, engineering and many others.

At the Pushpa Gujral Science City complex you can enjoy a digital planetarium show, a laser show, flight simulator, dome theatre film tour and many other activities.

4. Tulsi Mandir
Tulsi Mandir is a beautiful temple dedicated to Vrinda, the wife of Jalandhara. It is one of the most ancient temples in Jalandhar city. There is a tank by the side of the temple which is a pilgrimage spot for many visitors to Jalandhar. The water tank is also believed to be the bathing place of the demon Jalandhara. Nearby there is also the Gupha temple that has the idol of Goddess Annapurna. 

5. Shaheed-e-Azam Museum
Shaheed-e-Azam Museum is dedicated to the memory of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his compatriots who led the revolt against the British. The Museum has several momentos that narrate the atrocities inflicted by the British on these martyrs. Visitors are requested not to click pictures inside the Museum as photography is not allowed. 

6. Talhan Village
This is one of the most interesting places to see in Jalandhar. It is quite popular for its Gurudwaras especially the magnificent Talhan Sahib Gurudwara. Another major attraction here is the Shaheedi Jor Mela, an annually organized event in the memory of Shaheed Baba Nihal Singh. 

7. St. Mary’s Cathedral
The St. Mary’s Cathedral is a beautiful Church located in Mall Road in the cantonment area of Jalandhar. The premises of the Church has a well-maintained garden with beautiful fragrant flowers and a gallery that features pictures and other objects related to Christianity.

The architectural design of the church itself is unique and features two minarets with a statue of Christ in between. The interiors feature beautifully cut out colorful glass windows that reflect sunlight in a magnificent kaleidoscope of colors.

What are the things to do in Jalandhar?

1. Visit the sports market
Jalandhar is one of the most prominent producers and manufacturers of the finest sports equipment in India.  The market sells a wide variety of goods such as cricket bats, gloves, inflatable balls,  footballs, raquets, hockey sticks, leather sports accessories, sports wear and so much more.

The market itself is bustling with activities as each has its own speciality. The products sold here are of export quality and you can easily purchase the equipment of your choice with confidence. 

2. Spend the day at Wonderland Theme Park
The Theme Park is a great place to spend some quality time with family and friends. There are many fun rides and exciting activities. This is an excellent place for adrenaline junkies to let off some steam. The park is spacious, and here you can enjoy your time in the horror house or go boating.

The most popular attraction here is the wave pool. The garden is beautifully landscaped and well maintained. Other attractions here are the aqua dance floor, food joints and a well-designed kids area. 

3. Explore the Saidan Gate
Saidan Gate is the entrance to one of the largest and most interesting shopping complexes of Jalandhar. There are several streets lined with shops and street markets filled with a wide variety of items. This is a great place to shop for souvenirs, accessories, clothes, games, etc. All the streets are interconnected by narrow lanes that are nothing short of a maze. 4. Go shopping in Sadar Bazar

This is one of the busiest commercial hubs in Jalandhar and the most interesting one too.

This Park is a famous attraction, and it is located right in the heart of the city. It is a vast expanse with a beautiful garden area, towering trees and fountains. There is also an amusement park section with rides and other facilities. It is a perfect place to enjoy a stroll or sit and admire the beauty of the site. Outside the gate, there are food stalls where you can enjoy tasty treats before you leave.

6. Visit Harleen Water Fun Park

Which is the best time to visit Jalandhar?

The best time to visit Jalandhar is during the winter months between November to March. The temperature ranges between 6°C to 16 °C. The weather is pleasant and perfect for sightseeing.Winter is also a great time to visit Jalandhar as there are many festivals celebrated here during this time such as Lohri, Basant Panchmi and Sankranti. 

Summers are scorching in Jalandhar and not ideal for visiting. But the hotel rates are comparatively less during this time as it is low season. Monsoons bring in heavy showers with July being the wettest month of the year.

What is there to see in Jalandhar?

1. Jang-e-Azadi Memorial
Jang-e-Azadi Memorial is a Museum dedicated to the sacrifices and contribution made by the Punjabi community during the struggle of independence. The Memorial is located on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway and it is easily accessible.

It sets a perfect example of the cultural heritage of this community. The magnificence of its architecture itself makes this Museum worthy of a visit. Each of the galleries has a flower shaped dome overhead. There are seating areas as well as a lush green lawn surrounding the premises.

2. Kartarpur Gurudwara
This beautiful Gurudwara is approximately 16 km from the city center. It was established by the fifth  Sikh Guru, Guru Arjun Devji in 1656. On the birth anniversary of Guru Arjun Devji, there is a huge fair held here and devotees from far and near come here to seek blessings and to enjoy the fair. Couples who have just had a baby for their new born child. 

3. Gandhi Stadium
This is one of the must visit places, especially for cricket fans. The Stadium was built in 1955 and it has hosted one Test Match and three ODIs till date. It is also the home ground for domestic Indian cricket teams. The seating capacity of this Stadium is 16000 and now it is being reconstructed to match international levels. 

4. Shiva Mandir
The Shiva Mandir was built by the Nawab of Sultanpur and it is one of the most visited temples in Jalandhar. The major attraction here is the unique architecture of this shrine. The architectural design of the temple itself is quite different with an entrance that features the design of a mosque while the rest of the temple showcases typical Hindu style of architecture.
