About Guangzhou

Guangzhou is one of the twenty four famous cultural and historical cities of China. It however does not have the degree of cultural attractions as found in some other cities of China such as Xian and Beijing.

Travel advice

Guangxiao Temple: Situated in the capital of Guangdong province, Guangxiao Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temple in the country’s capital. It was also the place where the sixth Chinese patriarch of Chan Buddhism, Huineng delivered his first public lecture. It also acted as the translation center for various Buddhist Scriptures. This beautiful temple consists of Mahavira Hall, Samghrma Hall, and Ksitigarbha Hall. It is one of the most visited temple in Guangzhou and a major tourist attraction.

Huaisheng Mosque: 
Also known by the name Lighthouse Mosque and the Great Mosque of Canton, Huaisheng Mosque is one of the oldest Mosque in the world. People refer to it as the ”Lighthouse Mosque” due to its 118 ft Minaret. It is believed that the mosque was built in Ad 627 by Sa`d ibn Abi Waqqas, uncle of Prophet Mohammed. The mosque was rebuilt over many times during the course of history. It is also the main Mosque in Guangzhou city. Unfortunately, the Mosque is opened to only Muslims but other tourists can take a sneak peak from outside.

Canton Tower: 
Standing 1, 954 ft tall, Canton Tower is the third tallest tower and fifth freestanding structure in the world. It once had a title on it's name of being the tallest tower in the world. The tower is also known by three different names - Guangzhou TV Astronomical, the Sightseeing Tower and lastly, the Guangzhou Tower. Information Based Architecture and Arup designed this marvelous tower that makes it one of the best tourist places in China. Canton Tower hosted 2010 Asian games opening ceremony and Christmas concert on 24 December 2012. A wonderful sightseeing spot located in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou.

Museum of Mausoleum of the Nanyue King: 
Museum of Mausoleum of the Nanyue King is situated at Yuexiu District in central Guangzhou. It was open to public in 1988 and covers an huge area of 187,000 sq ft. The museum is divided in seven parts that includes the front chamber, east and west wing rooms, the main coffin chamber, east and west side rooms, and a back storage chamber. You will also find 2,000 year old tomb of Nanyue King Zhao Mo in the museum. The tomb consists of more than 1,000 burial artifacts, a chariot, gold and silver vessels, musical instruments, and human sacrifices

Baiyun Mountain: 
Formerly known as pakwan, Baiyun Mountain is a mountain range in Guangzhou. The mountain range consists of 30 peaks among which moxing peak is the highest peak, also known as Star-scrapping peak. 95% of the Baiyun Mountain is covered in vegetation. The mountain has won the prize of “ first beauty in Guangzhou” and it is also the most famous mountain of south of Ling. The mountain is organized as Baiyun scenic area.  Various sightseeing spots in Baiyun scenic area are Luhu Park,  Yuntai Garden, Mingchun Valley, Yunxi Ecological Park  and the Baiyun Sculpture Park among several other places.

Guangdong Museum: 
Guangdong Museum is the biggest museum in China’s capital city. The museum is situated at Zhujiang New Town in Guangzhou province. The ground floor of the museum features modern ceramic figures done in traditional Shiwan style. Different artist’s work and biography is displayed on each window. A portion of the museum is dedicated to Guangzhou history. As the city was center of trade with foreign nations, the museum has preserved the postcards, documents and other pictures used during those trades. There is also an exhibition of old Chinese pottery, China wares and traditional Chinese calligraphy. An ideal place to learn about city’s history and culture.

Pearl river night cruise: Guangzhou offers a wonderful night cruise experience, all tourists must try it while on their holidays in Guangzhou. Although, there is no doubt that day cruise is good but the night cruise is exceptional, the lightings, calmness and the atmosphere all adds upto it. Embark on your night cruise that takes place in Pearl River, the largest river in Guangzhou and the third largest in China. The river contains a small island that resembles like a huge pearl. Events: Guangzhou is a place where people gather to celebrate different occasions and festivals. Spring festival is one of the most famous festival celebrated here. It starts on first day of the  first lunar month and lasts for 15 days. Dragon boat is a festival that commemorates the sacrifice of poet Qu Yuan who fought against government's corruption. Lian Xiang Lou and Taotao Ju's moon cakes are two famous eatery sections you must visit at the mid-Autumn festival in Guangzhou. Double ninth festival, winter solstice and Chinese valentine’s day are some of the festivals you can enjoy here.

Canton fair: 
Canton fair is China's import and export commodities fair held twice in a year. If you are someone related to the same field, you can check it out during your stay here. The fair that first took place on 1957 has became a hotspot for traders and exporters. Sometimes even tourists visit here just to see the magnanimous event take place. It is the largest fair in China and also possesses the largest assortment products. Huge business deals takes place at the Canton fair and it looks no less than a festival. It is one of the biggest fairs you can visit so make the most out of the opportunity.

Cycling: 
The city has many small streets, alleys, and parks that makes Guangzhou a great place for cycling. As you cycle through the city, you will get a chance to explore parks, temples and outer markets.
