4. Tapkeshwar Temple: Tapkeshwar temple or the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple is an ancient temple located in Dehradun. The main shivlinga of the temple is situated inside a natural cave and the entire temple is inside a forest. There is a regular trickle of water droplets from the cave ceiling on the shivling, making it even more beautiful. The temple is just 9.7 kilometres away from the Dehradun ISBT and 7.5 kilometres away from Dehradun Railway station, and both distances can easily be covered by car for convenience.

5. Robber's Cave: Robber’s Cave or Gucchupani is a 600 metres long river cave located in the Himalayas, near the Sahastradhara (meaning- thousand fold spring). It is approximately 8 kilometres away from Dehradun and the best way to reach it is by car or any other such vehicle on road. You can also take a few kilometres trek from the nearby Anarwala village to reach the cave. The most attractive factor of this cave is its unusually cold water springs and the limestone narrow gorge. 6. Mindrolling Monastery: Mindrolling Monastery was built in the year 1965 by Khochhen Rinpoche and is one of the six monasteries dedicated to the Nyingma school of Buddhism. The monastery was built for renewing the faith in that region and is located at a distance of just 8 kilometres from Dehradun by road. The 60 meters tall Great Stupa is believed to be one of the tallest stupas in the world. The shrine rooms of the monastery display Tibetan art, murals, and relics of that era. The most attractive part is its 35 meters tall golden Shakyamuni Buddha Statue presiding over the monastery and the statue was dedicated to the Dalai Lama.

7. Shikhar Fall: Surrounded by mountains and forests, the Shikhar Fall is the most frequented waterfall of Dehradun. It is 20.2 kilometres away from Dehradun ISBT and can be reached within an hour via car. About a 1-kilometre trek is required to reach the waterfall and there is also a yellow pool on the trekking route, which gives a closer to nature feeling to the nature lovers. You can also see a variety of butterflies and birds near the waterfall due to its greenery and rich vegetation. On the way to the top to reach the Shikhar Falls, you will also see many small big waterfalls along the way. At the summit of the waterfall, many stalls and hawkers are also there to provide you with snacks after your trekking.

8. Jabarkhet Wildlife Reserve: Jabarkhet Wildlife Reserve is Uttarakhand's first privately-owned sanctuary and stretches over an area of 100 acres. This wildlife reserve is located at a distance of 42 kilometres from Dehradun, on the Mussoorie-Dhanaulti road. It has a majestic view of the Himalayas on all sides, unexplored forest trails covered in Oaks and Rhododendrons, and a variety of flora and fauna, with almost 100 species of birds. While walking on the trails, you can see birds like Himalayan Griffon, Lammergeier vultures, magpies, jays, etc. Some of the animals living inside the sanctuary are leopard, goral, barking deer, black bear, wild boar, sambars, yellow-throated martens, leopard cats, etc.

 1. Mussoorie: Mussoorie is a stunning hill station at a distance of 34 kilometres from Dehradun and can be reached within one and a half-hour by road. Travelling by car is the only convenient and comfortable way to reach Mussoorie from Dehradun.

The route between the two places is filled with beautiful hills, amazing ghat sections, and numerous small local eateries. 2. Rishikesh: Rishikesh, a small city in the Dehradun district, is famous for its location in the foothills of the Himalayas and the numerous temples, yoga ashrams, cafes, and adventure sports. Rishikesh is also the first place where the Ganga river descends from the Himalayas. Many hiking and camping trails to the Himalayas also start from Rishikesh.

You can travel from Dehradun to Rishikesh in less than half an hour, covering a distance of 47 kilometres, if you travel via the NH-7. In case you are travelling from Dehradun airport to Rishikesh, it will only take around 30 minutes as the distance between both the places is just 15 kilometres. 3. Dhanaulti: Dhanaulti is a hill station located on the foothills of the Himalayas and at a distance of 41 kilometres from Dehradun via road. You can rent a car and drive from Dehradun to Dhanaulti in just about 2 hours. When in Dhanaulti, you can visit the two eco-parks named Amber and Dhara, which are maintained by the Forest Department of the address.

You can take part in adventure activities like a walk over the flying fox and Burma bridges, or riding horses. 4. Chakrata: Chakrata, a cantonment town of Dehradun district, is located at a distance of 87 kilometres from Dehradun city, between the Tons river and Yamuna river. It takes almost 4 hours to reach Chakrata from Dehradun and there are two routes that can be taken, one is via Herbertpur and Kalsi while the other one is via Mussoorie and Yamuna Bridge.

The route between the two places is surrounded by picturesque mountains and dense forests. The major attractions of Chakrata are Kanasar, Tiger Falls, Chilmiri, Deoban, Budher (Moila Danda), Manjhgaon, Mundali meadows, Lakhamandal, and the Bairat Khai, also known as the Princess of Hills or Bairat Khai Pass).

5. Shimla: Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, is one of the most visited places in the North Indian region.
