Trajan’s Market Rome Overview

Also known as Mercati di Traiano, Trajan's market is an open space area in the ruins of Rome, situated in the Via Dei Fori Imperiali. This market is also popular as the oldest of the shopping malls around the world, filled with several shops and apartments. You can also visit the ancient library, and explore the marble floors housed here.

With an extensive history of being remodeled and reconstructed since its foundation in 110 AD, Trajan’s marketplace is one of the oldest markets in the world. Later, during the middle age period, several ramifications took place in the complex, with over a dozen of complex floors being added to sustain the many shops and architecture included here,

Finally, during the beginning of the twentieth century, the Trajan’s markets were restored, after the demolition of the convent which was built in the 16th century.

There are two modern entrances to this marketplace: the Quattro Novembro and the Piazza Madonna di Loreto. Furthermore, you can visit Trajan's Forum, which houses a huge balcony, offering serene views of the marketplace. Visit the shopping areas, which are divided into several sections, making it a great place to indulge in exploring around.

Once done with the shopping activity, you can indulge in viewing the two large halls, which serve as a place for auditions and concerts, and are popularly known as taberna.

The entire marketplace stands roofed by a vault, constructed on piers, in ancient Roman architecture, making space for enough airy atmosphere, thus ensuring a smooth stroll around the streets.
