The State Tretyakov Gallery is the national treasury and the main repository of Russian fine art. It contains more than 180,000 works of sculpture, painting and graphics created by generations of Russian artists.
It is the greatest museum in the world with two separate buildings: the Old Building of the Tretyakov Gallery and New Building (the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val). The art in this gallery is world class, bold, ambitious, showing key Russian masters, and mistresses and art pieces ranging from medieval icons to the trends of Soviet socialist realism up to the early 1900s.
