The Lighthouse Overview

The Lighthouse is an exhibition space, visitor center, and events venue. It has six floors which can be hired for evening receptions, corporate events, and weddings. The Lighthouse has been designated National Centre for Design and Architecture. It is a creative hub, and it is home to exhibitions featuring the best from international and Scottish designers all year round.

The Lighthouse is one of the most known tourist attractions in Glasgow, designed by famous architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Built in 1895, it was originally used as the Glasgow Herald newspaper's head office and was opened in 1999 as a public attraction. It acts as a beacon for Scotland's creative industries and promotes architecture and design through a vibrant program of events and exhibitions. The tower no longer plays a role in fire safety, and visitors can climb to the roof to enjoy breathtaking views of the Glasgow skyline.

The building continuously holds exhibitions and events focusing on the impact of architecture and design on our daily lives and what the future holds for designers and creators. A permanent exhibition is also organized here dedicated to Charles Mackintosh, giving an insight into the life of the Glaswegian architect. The building engages the public through its inventive program of educational resources and exhibitions.
