SUNDER MAHAL

Built by Prince Dhurbhajan, the son of Raja Jhujhar Singh, Sunder Mahal has lately become a popular pilgrim place for Muslims. The palace is a symbol of love as the prince fell in love with a Muslim girl and embraced Islam as his religion, giving up all his princely privileges. The transformation saw the prince resort to meditation and renunciation and retired to this very place after getting married.

Sunder Mahal is one of the popular places to visit in Orchha where his followers still gather in numbers to worship the erstwhile prince-turned-saint. Sunder Mahal also reflects diversity and secularism as it is one of the few Muslim structures in the ghost town of Orchha, which mainly houses Hindu temples.
