The villa was built in the honor of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, who visited Singapore nine times in the period of 1900 to 1911. Dr. Sun was a revolutionist who helped in removing the Qing Dynasty and is also considered an important figure in Chinese history as well as Southeast Asian history.

Teo Eng Hock bought it completely for Dr. Sun.
The villa was declared a national monument and in 1996 the villa was renovated. The villa was then opened to the public in 2001. There are 5 galleries that showcase photos, letters, and multimedia that show Dr. Sun’s relationship with other revolutionists during that era. The other galleries display holograms that display the daily activities of Dr. Sun in the villa. The English tours for permanent galleries from Wednesday to Friday start from 2 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays, they start from 3 pm. For the special exhibition, the English tour on Fridays starts from 10:30 am and on Saturdays, they start from 1:30 pm. The mandarin tours for permanent galleries on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday start from 2:30 pm and for special exhibitions on Saturdays, they start from 10:30 am.
