Situated close to Mantalai, 120 kilometres from Jammu city, is the revered shrine known as Sudh Mahadev Temple. With a long history of devotion and mythology, this ancient shrine is thought to be more than 2800 years old.
With Kashmir tour packages here, you can admire the temple’s famous Lingam made of genuine black marble, Lord Shiva's Trident (Trishul), and Bhimsen's mace. The temple was named after the legendary demon Sudh, whom Lord Shiva hurled Trishul at and killed but later repented, according to tradition.
You can see a six-foot iron Trishul buried in the earth, the Pap Nashni Bowli (holy spring), and the everlasting Akhand Jyoti (sacred flame). You can visit this shrine every year during Ashad Purnima (June–July), which is a three-day fair that draws visitors and devotees. It is thought that the heavenly marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place in the neighbouring Mantalai.
