Situated close to Mantalai, 120 kilometres from Jammu city, is the revered shrine known as Sudh Mahadev Temple. With a long history of devotion and mythology, this ancient shrine is thought to be more than 2800 years old.

With Kashmir tour packages here, you can admire the temple’s famous Lingam made of genuine black marble, Lord Shiva's Trident (Trishul), and Bhimsen's mace. The temple was named after the legendary demon Sudh, whom Lord Shiva hurled Trishul at and killed but later repented, according to tradition.

You can see a six-foot iron Trishul buried in the earth, the Pap Nashni Bowli (holy spring), and the everlasting Akhand Jyoti (sacred flame). You can visit this shrine every year during Ashad Purnima (June–July), which is a three-day fair that draws visitors and devotees. It is thought that the heavenly marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place in the neighbouring Mantalai.

Must-Try Experiences

1. Witness the Sacred Trident of Lord Shiva: Upon entering the temple, you can notice Lord Shiva's renowned Trident (Trishul), which is six feet tall and firmly positioned within the grounds. This iron spear, which is thought to have pierced the soil to kill the demon Sudh, has great religious and historical significance. Many devotees and tourists bow down in honour of its divine presence.

2. Explore the Ancient Shivling and Idol of Lakshmi Damodar: Add the legendary Shivling inside the temple to your places to visit in Jammu. The idol of Lakshmi Damodar, which is thought to have magically appeared next to it, shows the temple's mysterious past. In order to feel the intensely spiritual aura that envelops these deities, you can offer prayers here.

3. Attend the Annual Sudh Mahadev Mela: You can attend the temple's grand three-day festival if you go during the month of Ashad, which occurs between June to July. Thousands of pilgrims come together to take part in seasonal fairs, cultural performances, and ceremonies. With local art shows, devotional music, and a lively religious setting, the temple complex comes to life.

4. See the Ever-Burning Akhand Jyoti: First ignited by Jogi Sarup Nath, the eternal flame (Akhand Jyoti) is one of the temple's most fascinating features you can see. Many believers think that the ashes from this holy fire have spiritual meaning and are never taken away. You can witness the flame and take in the centuries-old customs of the temple.
