St. John's Church is the former cathedral church of Chester which was founded in the late 7th century AD by the Anglo Saxons and is located on the banks of the river Dee. The church once used to be the seat of the Bishop of Lichfield and has been called the best example of 11-12th century architectural style. The church was founded by King Aethelred as a major Baptist’s church in Chester .
One of the most beautiful tourist places to visit in Chester the church is constructed with sandstone with an Early English style due to Vistorian restorations in its exterior but the interiors of the church are much of Norman style. In the middle ages the church was popularly known as the Cathedral and Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross which was supposed to own the relic of the true cross brought back here after the Crusades war.
