SOGANLI VALLEY

Located at a distance of 36 km from Mustafapasa, the only way you can get to this picturesque valley is by hiking. The trail here is famous for its tranquil surroundings as well as a number of ancient churches that cover it on all sides. Apart from other Roman era tombs and pigeon houses on cave walls, there was also a tiny Turkish village here that got moved sometime ago due to environmental issues.

One of the lesser-known places to see in Cappadocia region, Soganli Valley is all about bare rocks, cliffs, plateaus and hidden cave churches set amidst a peaceful environment. The rock churches here date back to the 9th century as was used by the Byzantines as secret places to stay protected from enemy threats. Thanks to the tourism boom that has happened here and it has empowered the local women of the valley to make some authentic local women hand-make “Soğanlı dolls” which you could buy as a souvenir.
