Located in the historical city of Porto, the Sao Bento Station is one of the most beautiful of its kind in Europe. It is a French Beaux-Arts structure that features over 20,000 stunning azulejo tin-glazed ceramic tiles that depict Portugal’s History. You can see stories about its royalty, wars, as well as the history of its transportation system. These magnificent blue and white tiles were placed on these walls across 11 years between 1905–1916 by artist Jorge Colaço.
This beautiful train station, named after a Benedictine monastery, is also one of the best places to visit in Portugal. After being destroyed by a massive fire in the late 18th century, the station was built and rebuilt several times. The intricate tile work here displays intricate landscapes and ethnographic displays as well as important historic events such as the Battle of Valdevez and the Conquest of Ceuta.
