Reading Museum Overview

The Reading Museum of the Reading Town, Berkshire is unique and one of its own kind which was started with an initiative of the local collector Horatio Bland. Here, more than 500,000 accessioned objects which provide a glimpse into the history of the town have been presented. The different themes of the museum represent exhibits on various themes like archeology, art, natural history, social history and world cultures.

Reading Museum was built in 1883 and is one of the most unique kinds of places to visit in Reading, which is dedicated to the documentation of the history of culture and everyday life of Reading Town, Berkshire. The museum is situated within the Reading Town Hall and it puts up a grand exhibition of various art collections, the industries of the town and artefacts from the famous excavation of a Silchester Roman Town.

At the library, you’d find various dedicated galleries which are responsible for different types of collections like the story of the reading gallery has preserved the reading history of the city, at the silchester gallery you’d find archaeological finds, and the atrium is famous for its Roman Pavement Mosaic.

The museum organises regular temporary seasonal exhibitions to introduce its visitors with trending contemporary and abstracts forms of art. The permanent collection of the museum includes tapestry collection at the  Bayeux Gallery, display of the geographical history of the Reading town at the Green Space and finally, the Huntley and Palmers Gallery.
