PORTA AL PRATO

Porta al Prato is one of the ancient gates of Florence, Italy, dating back to the 13th century. Situated in the western part of the city, it was originally part of the medieval walls built to protect Florence. The gate takes its name from the nearby open fields, or "Prato," which were once used for agriculture. Porta al Prato's strategic location made it a key entry point for travellers arriving from Pisa and the western regions.

Although the surrounding walls were demolished in the 19th century, the gate itself remains a historical landmark. Today, it stands near a busy urban area and serves as a reminder of Florence’s rich medieval past. The gate is also close to the modern train station Firenze Porta al Prato, linking history with the present.
