PIHA BEACH

Piha Beach is a must-see for any visitor to Auckland. With its black sand and dramatic cliffs, Piha is one of the most unique beaches in New Zealand. Visitors can swim, surf, or simply take in the stunning views. The area also has several walking tracks, perfect for exploring the native bushland.

45 minutes west of Auckland city resides Piha, an easy-going seafront town, extremely active among residents in summer. It is a common surfing spot that is defined at either side by towering cliffs. There are powerful and sometimes destructive currents in the water but lifesavers are always patrolling the area.

You can also learn to surf while you are there. Delicious snacks and food is served in a popular licensed cafe and a takeaway shop, and the surf club has a bar and restaurant.
