Piazza San Carlo Overview

One of the most well-known places to visit in Turin, Piazza San Carlo is framed by twin churches and surrounded by cafes, shops, and architectural marvels.Since its construction in the middle of the 17th century, it has served as a gathering place for the Torinese. Located somewhat to the south of center Turin. The impressive statue of EmanueleFiliberto, a Duke of Savoy in the 16th century, dominates the square.

Piazza San Carlo is one of the most important public spaces and places to visit in Turin, as it is a historic landmark. It is a prime example of the Baroque architectural style, with a layout that dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. It was once known as Piazza Reale, Piazza d'Armi, and Place Napoleon before being renamed in honor of Charles Borromeo. The square is a total of 12,768 square meters in size, measuring 168 meters in length and 76 meters in width.

This is the most stunning plaza in Turin, designed by the royal architect Carlo di Castellamonte in the 17th century and still looking as good as it did then (1642-1650). Couples lounging on benches, kids playing around the base of the Duke Emmanuel Philibert statue, and tourists wandering through to get to the neighboring Egyptian Museum fill the square's central arcades, which are surrounded by busy restaurant and cafe tables. The city's most major public events, like New Year's Eve parties and broadcasts of Juventus soccer (football) matches, are held at the square. Visit the 17th century historic landmark Piazza San Carlo with our Europe packages.
