PETERBOROUGH MUSEUM

One of the oldest structures in the city, Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery which is filled with thousands of historic stories. For more than 70 years, the Georgian mansion has been used as a museum consisting of eight permanent galleries that showcase interesting cultural and historical artefacts.

It is impossible to miss visiting the Peterborough Museum, which features wall paintings from the 14th century and monastic institutions dating back to 654 AD. Enjoying an afternoon while witnessing over 200,000 items is undoubtedly one of the best tourist attractions in Peterborough. There is no doubt that the mesum is filled with some of the amazing items which can be enjoyed by all the age groups. You can also learn about the history of the city through artefacts like the history of surgery, 150 million years old fossils of giant creatures, etc. 

In 1816, Thomas Cooke, the local magistrate, built a private house and not as a museum. After that Fitzwilliam bought the property in 1856 so that it could be used as a hospital. The Peterborough Natural History, Scientific and Archaeological Society acquired it in 1931 from Sir Percy Stewart. In 1939, a gallery space was added to the house to display art and a museum of Peterborough's history was created.
