The museum is a three storey colonial-style building consisting of stones, costumes, photographs, arms, armor etc of the kings and sultans dating back to older periods. One of the most insightful places to visit in Male Maldives, The National Museum possesses a collection of the artefacts that are well maintained and also offers a dive into the history of the archipelago.
Home to royal antiquities from various eras including the Buddhists and Islam, it is a perfect place to visit for the ones who are inquisitive and fond of history. The museum also holds the collection of robes, headgear, thrones, palanquins, royal sunshades and other furniture used by the sultans. Possessing everything from lacquer work boxes, Buddhist and Hindu idols to old cannons and pictures of political events, the museum offers an incredible display aiming to instill the feeling of patriotism among the citizens of Maldives. It is a huge building with different collections on all the floors, each of which allows you to delve deep into the past imparting extensive knowledge.
