NATIONAL GALLERY OF MODERN ART

The National Gallery of Modern Art, famously called the La Galleria Nazionale, is one of Rome’s most sought-after destinations, established in 1883. Italy’s most renowned museum preserves a vast collection of foreign and Italian art, paintings, sculptures and drawings. The museum houses more than 20,000 art pieces belonging to different parts of the world.

Constructed in 1883, the National Gallery of Modern Art is a modern and contemporary art gallery located on the streets of Rome, Italy. This art gallery was opened on an initiative by then-minister Guido Baccelli. It is one of Italy’s most renowned art galleries, which is visited by over a hundred visitors on an everyday basis. The gallery houses the art pieces of some of the world’s most renowned artists. Not only Italian but the gallery is also filled with the work of artists from all around the world. 

The present building of this museum was constructed by an Italian architect Cesare Bazzani between 1911 and 1915. Later in 1934, the gallery doubled in size as the collection kept increasing. Later in 1988, the new building was inaugurated. The other name of the National Gallery of Modern Art is “The Teeth” because of its teeth-like shape. Cézanne, Giacometti, Monet, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Jackson Pollock, Van Gogh and Rodin are some of the famous artists whose works are displayed here.
