MUSEUM FOR HAMBURG HISTORY

Opened in 1922, the Museum For Hamburg History is one of the most fascinating places where you can discover 1200 years of history. The museum was constructed on the location of the Henricus Bastion, part of the fortifications which was erected by Dutchman Jan van Valckenborgh between 1616 and 1625.

The museum, which is also called a ‘gateway to the world”, is one of the best places to learn more about the history of the city. You can get a chance to learn about the pirates of the 14th and 15th centuries, the contemporary metropolis, and one of Europe's most significant ports. The permanent collection of the museum has the most amazing interiors with decorated ceilings, wall panels, and illusionist mural paintings.

You can witness many authentic remnants of old domestic culture which were restored after they were destroyed in the great fire. Go on a tour of the exhibition and look at the artifacts from Hamburg's baroque garden culture. Some of the most important works here are the ceiling of the hall at Catharinenstraße 19, the festive hall at Deichstraße 53, and a panorama tapestry from 1825.
