How To Reach

  • By Car: Start in the town of Bruzella, which is about 15 minutes by car from Mendrisio. It will take about 20 minutes to get to the Muggio Valley, which is about 10 km from the center of Mendrisio. Go to Cabbio on the main road, then turn left onto the old mule track. After 400 meters, you'll come to a split in the path. Take the left branch and go down to the beautifully shaped valley bottom made by the River Breggia.
  • By Bus: You can get to Mendrisio station by bus. After leaving Mendrisio, get on Bus Line 320 and go to Cabbio. About 5 km away from Muggio Valley is the bus stop in Cabbio. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the beginning of the old mule track that leads into the valley.
  • By Train: To get to the valley, take the cogwheel train from Capolago to Monte Generoso and then walk down.
  • By Foot: You can start your hike at the top of Monte Generoso. Or, Take one of the many paths in the area around Monte Generoso and Bisbino to reach Muggio Valley in 2-3 hours.

  • Best Season: Visit between June and August for lower hotel prices or early November for stunning autumn colours with vibrant yellows and rusty oranges in the valley.
  • Best Day of the Week: Weekdays are ideal for visiting Muggio Valley, as weekends tend to be crowded. 
  • Best Time of the Day: Mornings are best for visiting Muggio Valley as you get to appreciate the scenery before the afternoon rush.
