LONG SON PAGODA NHA TRANG

Built in 1963, Long Son Pagoda has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the beach city of Nha Trang. It is renowned for having the largest outdoor statue of Buddha in Vietnam, sitting on top of a cliff. This 24-metre tall statue is a symbol of peace and harmony which was carved out from natural white stone.

Long Son Pagoda boasts a traditional Vietnamese architectural style with vibrant colours and detailed carvings. Spread across 1,670 square metres, the main hall has the capacity of around a hundred pilgrims at a time. Another highlight of the pagoda is a magnificent 1.6 metre tall bronze statue of Buddha which weighs around 700 kg. 

Additionally, you can climb the 200 stairs, leading to Trai Thuy Mountain which offers several more attractions. On the 44th step, you will come across another marble statue of Buddha into nirvana. Taking a few more steps, you will get to see the great Dai Hong Chung Bell and on the 193rd step, you will see the white statue of Buddha.

How To Reach

By Road: Long Son Pagoda is located at a distance of around 1.2 km from the city centre of Nha Trang. You can reach the temple in approximately 3 minutes via the Trần Quý Cáp/CT01/QL1C route. You can take a taxi to directly reach the temple which is easily available from any corner of the city. For a more budget-friendly option, you can also rent a motorbike if you wish to explore more places at your own pace. 

By Walk: Another fun way of reaching Long Son Pagoda is by a short hike. You can start walking from the city centre of Nha Trang towards Trai Thuy Mountain via the Trần Quý Cáp/CT01/QL1C route. It is approximately a 20-minute walk from the city centre to Long Son Pagoda, during which you will get to witness scenic views throughout your journey.

Other Essential Information

• Make sure to wear modest clothing covering your knees and shoulders as it is a spiritual site. 
• Follow the guidelines and use the right gate for entry and the left gate for exits only.
• Maintain the peaceful atmosphere of the temple by avoiding talking or laughing loudly inside the premises. 
• Remember to take off your shoes before entering the temple as a sign of respect.
• It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes as it is a mountainous region where you will be required to walk and climb stairs. 
• Refrain from touching any of the statues of Buddha or from ringing the giant holy bell, Dai Hong Chung Bell.
• Avoid lighting an incense stick inside the temple to maintain the purity of the air. Instead, there is a separate area outside the temple where you can light the incense stick. 
• Avoid any kind of flash photography inside the temple to avoid disturbing other pilgrims. 
• Carry sufficient water bottles with you to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. 
• Maintain the cleanliness of the environment and dispose of garbage only in the dustbins.
