About Llandaff Cathedral

Llandaff Cathedral is located among the oldest Christian sites in Britain. St Dyfrig succeeded by St. Teilo and then by St. Euddogwy were three Celtic Saints who remain patron saints of the current Cathedral and are also represented by the three miters in the Llandaff Cathedral badge. There are no remains of the original church; however, a Celtic Cross that stood nearby can be easily seen near the door of the Chapter house.

The current cathedral was from 1107, when the bishop urban, i.e., the first Bishop appointed by the Normans, started building a vast church, making it the best place to visit Cardiff. The arch of the Cathedral was built at that time; however, the doorway which now leads to St. David Chapel could be the West door of the Urban’s church until it was shifted to its new site when Llandaff Cathedral was widened and extended and a new front was built about 1220. The west front is one of Wales's most notable medieval works of art.
