1. Kamshet during winters (December – February)
Temperature: 28 – 5 degrees Celsius
Winter is the best time to visit Kamshet. The heat from the sun is soft on the skin and sight-seeing becomes easier. At night, however, the temperature can drop to as low as 5 degrees Celsius. So it is advisable to carry warm sweaters and jackets.
2. Kamshet during summer (March-May)
Temperature: 28 – 36 degrees Celsius
Kamshet can be visited during summers if you are willing to bear with the sun. The scorching heat can cause dehydration and tanning, so carry sunglasses, hats, sun-screen and a bottle of water with you. The nights are pleasant and perfect for star-gazing.
3. Kamshet during monsoon (June – October)
Temperature: 21 – 27 degrees Celsius
Since paragliding is an umpteenth attraction of the place, it is advisable to not visit Kamshet during monsoon. There are chances of a hailstorm, and the unpredictable rain schedule might interrupt your sight-seeing itinerary.
Kamshet can be accessed by air, train and road/self drive.
Air: The nearest airport is Pune located at a distance of 55 Km from Kamshet. All major domestic airlines have direct flights to Pune from many major cities in India. Once you exit the airport, you can take a bus, taxi or train to Kamshet.
Train: The closest railway station to Kamshet is in Lonavala. The Lonavala station is connected to all major Indian cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Cochin, Bangalore, etc. Once you exit the station, hire a local cab as Kamshet is only 17Km away.
Road: You can either take one of the state run buses from Pune to Kamshet, or even drive. Kamshet is connected via highway to Pune as well as Mumbai.
The only public transport available in Kamshet are the private cabs. You can hire them on a daily basis, they may even give you packages that will include visits to various tourist spots in and around Kamshet.
Kamshet, being a small city, does not have malls or shopping centres. People usually visit the place for its caves and paragliding adventure. However, there are a lot of local shops selling goods and services traditional to the culture of Maharashtra. There are places around Kamshet for shopping that are a bounty for trinkets and souvenirs. Some of these places include:
1. Sachin Bhate: Sachin Bhate is a shopping centre in Hinjewadi, about 30 km from Kamshet. The place offers traditional sarees and key chains that can be bought as gifts for your family and friends.
2. Styleyara: Styleyara, situated in Chinchwad Gaon, is a drive of 25 km from Kamshet. They have a variety of Kurtis, salwar suits, sarees, and western clothes in their repertoire.
3. Rohini Collection: Rohini Collection, too, is situated in Chinchwad Gaon and sells clothes. Their collection of clothes is not only restricted to females but also includes kid’s clothes and male clothes.
Yes, Kamshet is a safe place to visit with friends and families. Even during paragliding, if you are not skilled enough, you are tethered to a pilot for your safety at some organizations. At night, it is safe to walk on the streets without any hassle. However, just to be on the safe side, carry pepper-spray with you wherever you go.
