About Kairakuen Garden

Kairakuen Garden, located in Mito, Japan, is one of the country's Three Great Gardens, renowned for its exquisite beauty and historical significance. Established in 1842 by Tokugawa Nariaki, the ninth daimyo of the Mito Domain, Kairakuen translates to "a park to be enjoyed together," reflecting its purpose as a space for public enjoyment and relaxation.

The garden is most famous for its extensive plum grove, featuring over 3,000 plum trees of various species. Each spring, the garden bursts into a sea of delicate pink and white blossoms, attracting visitors from all over Japan and beyond. Beyond the plum trees, Kairakuen boasts a serene bamboo grove, majestic cedar woods, and scenic walking paths.

The garden's highlights include the traditional Kobuntei Pavilion, offering panoramic views, and the tranquil Tokiwa Shrine. Kairakuen's harmonious blend of natural beauty and cultural elements provides a peaceful retreat and a window into Japan's rich horticultural heritage.
