John Clare was born and raised in the Helpston village, which is hidden among Peterborough and Stamford. He was recognized as the finest English poet and spent 40 years there, from 1793 till 1832. Nowadays, the cottage is used to showcase his life and work together with examples.
To preserve John Clare Cottage for future generations, the John Clare Trust bought it in 2005. Using classic building techniques, the Cottage has been rebuilt to establish a centre, The tourists can learn about the work of John care, how people lived there in the 19th century, and environmental awareness.
