Jogyesa Temple is a prominent Buddhist temple located in the heart of Seoul, South Korea. Known for its vibrant and serene ambiance, the temple serves as a significant center for Korean Buddhism and a place of spiritual refuge for locals and tourists alike.
It is the head temple of the Seoul district and is known as the centre of Korean Buddhism. The building dates back to the 14th century but was completely burned down in a fire. After the rebuilding of the temple, it is known to have undergone a purification drive in order to eliminate the Japanese influence and revive traditional Korean Buddhism.
All the major Buddhist events, ceremonies, rituals, lectures etc take place in this temple. The temple also holds an annual lantern festival in order to celebrate the birth of Buddha.
