The grade-I building of Ingatestone Hall, located outside the village of Ingatestone, is the official residence of the Petre family which was built in 1556. It has been designed in English bond brick structure and has been listed among the prominent architectural structures of the medieval times in Chelmsford. Adore the architecture and beauty of the venue with your family or friends.
One of the most beautiful buildings and tourist places to visit in Chelmsford, this building dates back to 1556. The manor was bought by William Petre who commissioned the construction of the house in which his family lives even today. After the Reformation movement when England was turning into a Protestant country, the Petre family sheltered the many cathedral church bishops. The house built in an English architectural style has typical Tudor features like stepped gables, an octagonal staircase, and ornate chimney pots.
Its architectural plan comprises three wings ( north, east, and south) and a large hall which was designed by William Petre, owner of the house. The inside of the building is as spectacular as its red bond brick exterior, the 29-meter-long gallery in the eastern part of the house has up to 40 portraits of the Petre family. The Stone hall has been designed with Oak Panels, it replaces the former Great Hall which has crumbled with time.
