By Metro- The visitors can take metro lines 51, 53, and 54 and drop off at the Waterlooplein stop. From there, you can take the station’s exit Hortusplantsoen to reach the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam.

By Train- You can board the train from anywhere in the country to Amsterdam Central Station and then take a bus, metro, or tram to reach Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam.

By Tram- If you are traveling to Hortus Botanicus by tram, you can take tram number 14 towards Flevopark and alight at Mr. Visserplein to reach your ideal destination.

By Bus- You can board bus number 287 towards Bijlmermeer and stop at Artist to reach Hortus Botanicus.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Hortus Botanicus is between June and September. The Hortus Botanicus includes three greenhouses, a palm greenhouse, a butterfly house, and a Kaslokaal greenhouse with different climatic conditions such as temperature, humidity and air circulation. The three climate greenhouses are the three different zones with different climates, representing the desert, the subtropics, and the tropics. On one hand, the palm greenhouse showcases a vast collection of palms, palm ferns, and container plants during the winter season. The butterfly greenhouse consists of hundreds of tropical butterflies flying freely in their enclosure, while the Kaslokaal glassroom is a flexible space for all kinds of educational activities at the Hortus Botanicus.

One of the key features of Hortus Botanicus are its gardens, that also includes a snippendaal garden, a semicircular (systematic garden), and a large pond. In the snippendaal garden, visitors can witness a vast collection of medicinal plants that have been used for the education of pharmacists and doctors since the 17th century. Moving forward, you will find a semicircle of plant systematics in the garden that offers an abundance of flowers in the summer season and the straight symmetrical lines of its beds in the winter season.
