Built on the Black river, Hoa Běnh Dam is one of the remarkable Hanoi places to visit. This dam is Vietnam’s largest hydroelectric dam that generates a lot of power by combining eight turbines of 240 MW capacity totaling to 1920 MW of installed capacity. When you visit the dam you will find a 400 ton giant statue of Ho Chi Minh on the neighboring hill of Tuong.
Legend has it that when the Vietnamese Leader was crossing the Red river in a boat during Vietnam’s independence struggle against America, he faced many challenges. Eventually Ho chi Minh got so frustrated with the challenges that he manifested a reunification of the South and North by building a dam to calm the ferocious river.
