Glasgow Central Station is one of the most magnificent buildings in Glasgow. The railway station was opened on 1 August 1879 by the Caledonian Railway. The entrance area of Glasgow Railway Station has ornate ironwork and beautiful pillars holding up the arcade. It is the busiest railway station in Scotland and the twelfth-busiest railway station in Britain.
Glasgow Central Station is Scotland's principal station serving more than 29 million passengers annually. It was opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1879 and is managed by Network Rail. The station's most impressive architectural features are the glass-walled bridge nicknamed the 'Hielanman's Umbrella' because it was used as a highlanders' meeting place. Glasgow Central connects numerous cities in the United Kingdom, including London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Bristol, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Inverness, and others.
The station has two toilets on the lower floor, and you can get tickets for any Scottish destination by heading to the ticket office. But if you are going somewhere else, you will have to buy tickets from the station's travel center. Tours of the Glasgow Central station are conducted several times each week. These ninety-minute tours cover the vaults, the catacombs, the roof, and a view of platforms below the station.
