The art collections amassed by the House of Savoy are on exhibit at the Galleria Sabauda in Turin. Works from the Savoy-Carignano Picture Gallery, the Royal Palace of Turin, and the Palazzo Durazzo in Genoa are all brought together in this exhibition space. When the palace was turned into the senators' new home, the Egyptian Museum was relocated to the Academy of Sciences.
More than 150 years ago, an art collection was founded at the Galleria Sabauda. The Dukes of Savoy spent generations amassing a personal art collection that served as the collection's backbone. Today, the collection is displayed in a section of the Royal Palace of Turin. In 1832, the Palazzo Madama became the home of the Royal Gallery, which would later be renamed the Galleria Sabauda. The collection expanded over time as new items were added through donations and purchases. The gallery currently has around 500 artworks on exhibit. Since 2014, this site has served as the gallery's home. The gallery is located in what was formerly the stables of the Royal Palace of Turin, but is now known as the "new" wing. The truth is, though, that the wing wasn't constructed until the turn of the twentieth century. It's new only in comparison to the older elements of the palace, some of which date back to the 16th century.
