Gaba Tepe Museum Overview

The Gaba Tepe Museum, also known as Kabatepe Museum or Gallipoli War Museum is dedicated to the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I. The museum is situated at the entrance of the Gallipoli National Park and is located on the Gallipoli Peninsula, overlooking the Northern Aegean Sea. The museum has an interesting collection of artefacts including weapons, military uniforms, photographs, private belongings and even bullet-pierced skulls of Turkish soldiers. It is a great place to learn about the Gallipoli Campaign, considered a significant turning point in the modern history of Turkey, Australia and New Zealand. 

Take a tour of the 11 gallery rooms of the museum with high-tech 3D simulation equipment which will take you on a historical journey. The journey will take you through the Gallipoli naval and land campaigns, and give you an insight into the Turkish point of view. After the simulation tour, stroll across exhibition halls spreading over two floors, containing various artefacts.

How To Reach

1. By Car: Gaba Tepe Museum is located 1.8 km from Gallipoli, it will take 5 min to reach the museum Kore Kahramanlar Cd. and Gazi Hasan Paşa Cd if you are travelling by a hired car or cab.


2. By Foot: If you prefer to walk to reach the museum, it will take you approximately 17 minutes via Gölcük Cd.


3. By Bus: If you are travelling from nearby towns, you can reach Gallipoli by bus and then take a car or walk to reach the museum.

Best Time To Visit

Gaba Tepe Museum is open throughout the year from 8 am to 5 pm and can be visited any time of the year.


1. Best season: The best season to visit Gaba Tepe Museum is during the spring, from April to May or autumn,  from September to October. During these months the weather is mild, and the crowds are smaller.


2. Best day in the week: The best day in the week to visit the Gaba Tepe Museum is during the weekdays, when the crowd is less, and you will be able to explore the place at your own pace.


3. Best time of the day: The best time of the day to visit Gaba Tepe Museum is at its opening hours at 8 am. The museum is a part of the vast Gallipoli National Park and is located at the entrance. If you visit early during the day, you will also get the time to explore the rest of the park after visiting the museum.

Other Essential Information

  • For an audio tour, there are individual headsets which allow the visitors to choose their presentation language. 
  • Simulations are extremely loud and are unsuitable for young children.
  • The museum has a gift shop where you can purchase memorabilia, souvenirs and books related to the Gallipoli Campaign.
  • If you wish to grab a bite, there are on-site cafes and restaurants available.
