DERBY ARBORETUM

A place of peace and relaxation, the Derby Arboretum is Britain’s first public park which also inspired the design of the world famous Central Park. Opened as a haven for textile workers, this park is a place where tourists as well as city employees can still find peace and quiet, even after 175 years of its existence.

The Derby Arboretum, opened in 1840 and is renowned for being the first public park in Britain. It is popularly known as Arboretum Park and The Arboretum and is Grade II listed, owing to its beautiful array of trees. This was the country’s original purpose-built urban park. During your visit, be sure to spot the trees here that are included in the British Isles Tree Register under the list of notable trees recorded by the foreign Commission. 

You should definitely take a walk around on this 11 acre site, and explore the nature here as no two species of trees or shrubs here are the same. Some of the best specimens of exotic trees can be found at Derby Arboretum, including the tallest Caucasian Lime tree in Britain.
