DE POEZENBOOT

The De Poezenboot (Catboat) is Amsterdam's only sanctuary that offers shelter for stray and abandoned cats in a houseboat. A haven for feline lovers, the sanctuary floats on the picturesque Amsterdam canal and entices guests with its serene appeal. Founded in 1966, the Catboat has the sole aim of assisting as many cats as possible and has since evolved into a modern sanctuary maintained by experts. Visitors are invited to cuddle, adopt, and make charitable contributions. The Catboat is only open for a couple of hours (1:00 to 3:00 pm) most days of the week, except on Wednesdays and Sundays, so the cats can enjoy their time. There is also a gift shop from where visitors may shop souvenirs, such as magnet and t-shirts, with the collection going toward supporting the sanctuary's operations.
