One of the most amazing places to visit in Chelmsford, the Civic theatre has been the entertainment hub of Chelmsford since 1962. The theatre boasts two very large auditoriums- the Assembly Hall and Cramphorn Studio which were added in the 1980s. Theatre now also works as a production house and produced many big hit films.
Civic Theatre is located in the heart of Chelmsford and had been established with the inauguration of its Assembly Hall on 25 May 1962. It has been playing an important role in shaping the culture of the city for the last 60 years being the sole platform. A range of cultural performances like dances, music shows, plays, opera, etc. The theatre had been originally named ‘Chelmsford theatre’ but after the successful completion of its first season, it adopted its present name.
It has two very large auditoriums called the Assembly Hall and Cramphorn Studio, a pre-show and interval bars, and after its renovation, it would add a front house space and a dedicated all-day cafe as well. Over time the theatre has organized plays by Tennessee Williams, Agatha Christie, Noel Coward and west end musicals like FiveGuys Named Moe. Recently the theatre has been a production house for the most notable shows Snow White in 2017 and Cinderella in 2018.
