CHURCH OF KISH

The Church of Kish, also known as the Church of Saint Elishe, is an ancient Christian site located in the village of Kish, near Sheki, Azerbaijan. Dating back to the 1st century AD, it is considered one of the oldest Christian churches in the Caucasus. This remarkable monument is believed to have been established by Saint Elishe, a disciple of the Apostle Thaddeus, who introduced Christianity to the region.

The church showcases stunning Caucasian Albanian architecture, featuring a simple yet elegant stone structure. Over the centuries, it has served as a spiritual and cultural hub, evolving through various periods of religious and architectural significance.

During the 12th to 15th centuries, the church underwent significant modifications, reflecting Georgian and Armenian influences. It was later restored in the 20th century, preserving its historical and architectural value.
