The Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple is home to one of Myanmar's most impressive reclining Buddha statues, located in Yangon. This colossal figure stretches 66 meters (217 feet) long and is adorned with a golden face, crimson lips, and blue eyeshadow beneath a crown encrusted with diamonds and precious stones.
The Buddha's peaceful expression captures the moment of entering nirvana. Its feet feature 108 auspicious marks inlaid with mother-of-pearl, depicting the past lives of Buddha.
Originally built in 1907, the statue was reconstructed in 1966 after the original deteriorated. The temple provides a serene atmosphere for worship and meditation despite being a popular tourist attraction. Monks can often be seen studying in the monastery attached to the temple, adding to its spiritual ambiance.
