CASTELO DOS MOUROS

This Moorish Castle is one of the most popular places to visit in Portugal that fundamentally served as a military fortification testifies to the presence of Islamic rulers in the country. It is believed that these were initially built during the eighth and ninth centuries and were later expanded. They look over the town of Sinatra and served as a watchtower thus standing guard to Lisbon and the surrounding region.

Located high atop the hills above the town of Sintra, the Castle of the Moors was built back in the 8th century and is today among the best places in Portugal. It was built during the Islamic rule in the country but had later fallen into disrepair. Although the fortress has been only partially restored after the Christian rulers came to the scene, it serves as one of the best places to visit in Portugal among travelers for its rich history and spectacular views. 

The mighty castle has been built on an exposed rocky outcrop and has defended the entire region during its days of glory.
