Burghley House was the first in Queen Elizabeth’s prodigy, which was built in 1520-1598, by William Cecil. The house was transferred to the charitable trust in 1981, till then it was owned by the Burghley family. Presently, the houses used for the formal meetings by the government of Peterborough.
Burghley House was Queen Elizbeth’s home which was built by William Cecil who later possessed the house in 1688. It is one of the most exciting tourist attractions in Peterborough as the house is the jewel to be added in the Queen’s list and filled with amazing architecture. It consists of one of the finest private collections of Old Master paintings of Italy, European and oriental collections which are famous worldwide.
The Queen also possessed a Chinese snuff collection being the finest in the present world, fine continental and English furniture. The house also has a park and lake, where you can take a walk. You can get beautiful views of the house across the waters of Brown's lake by walking across the park to the Palladian Bridge. It is a perfect spot for children as it has a moss house, mirror maze, paddling pool and many more things to enjoy.
