BRIDGE OF SIGHS

The Bridge of Sighs in Oxford, officially known as Hertford Bridge, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Spanning New College Lane, this picturesque structure connects two parts of Hertford College. Built in 1914, its design is often compared to the famous Bridge of Sighs in Venice, although the resemblance is largely superficial.

The Oxford bridge boasts a distinctive blend of architectural styles, including elements of neo-Baroque design, with intricate stonework and arched windows. Despite its romantic name, the bridge was never associated with sighs of despair; rather, it gained the moniker due to its aesthetic resemblance to its Venetian counterpart.
