Explore the iconic Bodrum Windmills located in Yalikavak and on the hillsides between Gumbet and downtown Bodrum. These seven whitewashed stone windmills were built in the 1700s and were used to turn grain into flour.
They give you a look into Bodrum's past, even though they aren't used anymore. When you visit these old buildings, you can take in the stunning views of Bodrum, Gumbet Bay, and even the Greek island of Kos.
The view is especially breathtaking around dusk, which is the ideal time to visit. Even though they are old and worn, the windmills are great for taking pictures and are a peaceful place to think. One of the best ways to see the area is to ride your bike or hike up to the windmills. The windmills are a charming reminder of the area's cultural history, and people come to see them all year long.
By Car: The Bodrum Windmills are about 4 km from central Bodrum. It takes approximately 10 minutes via the D330 road towards Gumbet. Follow signs for the windmills on the hill.
By Bus: Take a public bus (Dolmuş) from Bodrum city centre to Gumbet. The windmills are around 3 km from the Gumbet bus stop. From there, it’s a 20-minute uphill walk to the windmills.
The best time to visit the Bodrum Windmills is during the spring and early summer months, from April to June, or in September. The weather is mild, offering clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the windmills and enjoying panoramic views of Bodrum without the peak-season crowds.
