Dedicated to Lord Narsimha, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, the temple is believed to be the future resting place of Badrinath. Tales from Hindu mythology speak of a time in the future when a devastating flood will result in the detachment of the right arm of the Narsimha statue which is currently located in Joshimath. The stories go on to say that the detached right arm will eventually present itself at Bhavishya Badri to be worshipped.
