About Baiterek
Standing 97 meters tall, Baiterek symbolizes the year 1997 when Astana became Kazakhstan's capital. The structure’s design merges traditional and modern elements, reflecting the nation’s journey from its cultural roots to a dynamic, progressive future. The base features white columns, reminiscent of tree trunks, while the gleaming golden sphere at the top represents the egg laid by the mythical Samruk bird, a sacred symbol in Kazakh lore.
Visitors ascend to the observation deck located inside the sphere for breathtaking panoramic views of Astana’s architectural marvels, including the Ak Orda Presidential Palace and Nurly Zhol Boulevard. Within the sphere, a golden handprint of former President Nursultan Nazarbayev invites visitors to place their hand in a symbolic gesture of connection and unity.
